YOUNGREADERS

Small sounds. Big beginnings.

A playful early-reading programme that helps little learners hear sounds, connect sounds to letters, build words and take their first confident steps into reading.

A Malaysian child arranging cards during a playful reading activitySound patterns they can touch and move

Does this feel familiar?

They want to learn. They just do not know where to begin.

Sounds get tangled

They may hear the whole word but struggle to notice the smaller sounds inside it.

Books start to feel like a test

They may guess, freeze, wait for the answer or avoid the page altogether.

Reading time becomes a struggle

A simple request to read can end in stalling, frustration or tears, leaving both of you unsure what to try next.

A different way in

You do not need to push harder. One SOUND at a time.

Young Readers turns early reading into something children can hear, touch and enjoy.

We begin with small steps that make sense, using movement, games, hands-on materials and shared reading so every moment does not feel like a test.

Listen-and-move gamesChildren notice sounds with their whole body.
Hands-on word buildingSound patterns become pieces they can move and test.
Playful blending challengesSeparate sounds begin working together.
Shared books and story playNew skills meet short, meaningful text.

The Young Readers method

Four steps that build on one another.

Scroll to meet the method. Hover, tap or focus each card to see what that step may help a child begin to do.

Inside the classroom

The room moves. So does the learning.

This is not a sit-still-and-fill-in-the-page lesson. Children travel through short, purposeful activities that move from listening to meaningful reading.

The opening learning cycle

The first four weeks, with a purpose behind every step.

These four weeks are the opening cycle of a complete 10-lesson term. They are not the full programme.

Week 1

HEAR IT

Reading begins in the ear.

Children listen for, identify and play with sounds in spoken words through SUPA activities. Before a child can connect a sound to a letter, they first need to notice that the sound is there.

What happens in classThey listen, repeat, compare and manipulate sounds without the pressure to read a full page.
Why this step mattersIt develops phonemic awareness and creates a clearer starting point for the sound-to-letter work that follows.
What may begin to emergeYour child may start noticing familiar sounds more readily and attempting them with greater confidence.

A stronger start, not a race to read first.

The goal is not to rush a four-year-old through harder books. It is to make the early steps clear enough that they can take part, try again and understand what to do next. The sequence matters: children hear a sound, connect it to a visible pattern, blend it into a word, then meet it again in meaningful text. Progress may look quiet at first, such as noticing a sound, moving the right tile, attempting a blend or opening a book with less hesitation. Those small moments are how a stronger reading foundation begins.

Questions? We have got you.

A few things you may be wondering.

Does my child need to know how to read already?

No. Young Readers is designed for children who are still building the foundations of reading. We begin with sounds, letters and simple word-building before moving into connected text.

Is this a four-week course?

No. The programme runs for 10 lessons. The first four weeks shown on this page are the opening learning cycle, not the entire term.

What will my child bring home?

Your child will receive programme materials and guided take-home practice. The Schola team will let you know if anything else is needed before the first lesson.

Can I choose Saturday or Sunday?

Yes. Select your preferred cohort in the questionnaire below, and the Schola team will confirm availability with you.

Not sure yet? That is okay.
